India's largest cinema chain, PVR, will open 30-40 more screens across the country in the next six months, a senior company official said. "We are planning to open 30-40 screens at an investment of Rs 1.5-1.7 crore per screen within the next six months," PVR's vice-president (business development) Vijay Kapoor said.
The total money to be pumped in is likely to be over Rs 30-40 crore (Rs 300-400 million).
PVR, a joint venture between Priya Exhibitors Private Ltd and Village Roadshow Ltd, had launched its commercial operations in 1997. PVR also plans to invest Rs 300-400 crore to open 250 screens by 2010, according to its official website.
It operates 26 cinemas with a total of 108 screens in Delhi [ Images], Faridabad, Gurgaon, Ludhiana, Ghaziabad, Mumbai [ Images ], Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow [ Images], Indore, Aurangabad, Baroda and Latur.
