HTML clipboardChina has requested talks, under World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules, with the US over its trade dispute.
The US imposed tariffs on Chinese tyre imports on Friday. China responded with an "anti-dumping" probe into US car parts and chicken meat imports.
China's Commerce Ministry said the tyre duties were in "violation of WTO rules".
Under WTO rules, these talks often come before both parties seek a final ruling from the trade body.
On Friday, the White House announced duties of an additional 35% on Chinese-made tyres for one year, followed by tariffs of 30% and 25% in the following two years.
It said it was in order "to remedy a market disruption caused by a surge in tyre imports".
China has called the moves "protectionist".
Washington has long accused China of trade protectionism.
The US is unhappy at the high volume of cheap Chinese exports to America, which it feels is artificially supported by the weak yuan.
